Guided Tour

The centre

The Plouray Centre (Druk Toupten Tcheukor Ling in Tibetan) – The Dragon’s (Drukpa’s) garden where the Dharma wheel turns – is a Dharma Centre dedicated to study and practice of tibetan buddhism of Drukpa’s oral tradition.. The Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa, Head of the lineage, is its spiritual authority; it is the European headquarter whereas the main monastery of the lineage is located in Darjeeling, India.

His Holiness comes to the Centre once or twice a year. The Venerable Lama Nawang runs the Centre all year long.

His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa and other great Masters are invited every year at the Centre to give teachings. In the past, the Centre had the privilege of welcoming H.E Kyabe Trulshik Rinpoche, H.E Bairo Rinpoche, H.E. Namnhka Drime Rabjam Rinpoche, H.E Dr Trogawa Rinpoche.

The Stupa

This Stupa named “the good auspicious doors” is one of the eight main Stupas built by the five disciples of Buddha after His teaching on the “Four Noble Truths”.

This design has been chosen by His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa and erected by Buthanese artists assisted by many volunteers and a few talented workers from Morbihan.

The Stupa has been blessed by His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa and His father, HE Bairo Rinpoche in August 1997.

There are three statues inside the stupa : the main statue of Guru Padmasambhava is surrounded by Chenrezi and Green Tara’s statues. Both statues of Chenrezi and Green Tara were scuplted by Buthanese artists during the year 2000; they was painted by Ladakhi artists in May 2003.

“A Stupa is not only built for glory and fame, but for its beneficial influence on the sentient beings, the area and the world, so that there will be no obstacles to the spiritual Masters’compassion activity, in order to maintain the existing intact and pure spiritual tradition, and to connect the Drukpa European Centre of Plouray to the first monastery of the lineage in Tibet, Shedroup Tcheukor Ling in Raloung”

The Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa.

The Spiritual Hall

As the number of students attending His Holiness’ and other great Masters’ teachings is regularly increasing, the building of a Spiritual Hall has been foreseen on the Bel Avenir ground. His Holiness has drawn a rough draught in the TGV train when travelling from Geneva to Paris in September 2001.

Messrs Morvan and Le Solliec, Lord Mayors of Plouray and Gourin as well as Mr. Pierre Bleuzen, architect who realized the final plan as per His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa’s instructions, participated to the inauguration of its building on the 27th April 2002. .

His Holiness gave his first teachings in this Hall in September 2002. The Bumpa Ceremony took place on this occasion.

Retreat Center: The meditation garden

The project drawn by His Holinness

The houses were built following a dream His Holiness had during His second stay at the centre. Six houses have now been completed. His Holiness has wished for these houses to be built so that every one has the opportunity to practise in good conditions. Any one wishing to go on a retreat in order to practise is welcome.

A prayer wheel

A prayer wheel were built at the Drukpa Plouray Buddhist centre. It should be inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in August 2008.
The 6 meters high building which will shelter the prayer wheel is made by Lama Seunam- a specialist in sacred Buddhist art. The prayer wheel is a cylinder about 2 meters high with handles to spin it. The cylinder itself is just a container, the essential being inside – mantras imprinted on paper rolls wound around the wheel axle.

To spin around a prayer wheel means setting in motion the energy of the mantras it contains, spreading and diffusing this energy all around, thinking that it will not only be beneficial to the person who is spinning it but also to the infinity of sentient beings. In this respect, the prayer wheel at Plouray Centre is dedicated to peace and harmony in Brittany and throughout the world.

Project for the reconstruction of Drubpon Ngawang's family temple in Bhutan

The earthquake that shook Bhutan in September 2009 has nearly destroyed Chungkhar temple entirely. As it is a family estate, it cannot benefit from any governmental support. Thus, Drubpon Ngawang launched the project for its rebuilding. The works should stretch to 3 years time. To read more about it : : www.chungkhar.org
